Hello Ray did this happen after installing Vista service pack 1?

Is this an upgrade disk or full install disk?

I had same sort of errors as in no boot found a few days ago and I have Vista full install disk. This happened after I installed SP1.

Now I tried every thing to get my machine to boot backup to no avail.
The final fix,now bare in mind I do have full Vista install disk.I reinstalled XP home or Pro would do it to.I activated XP but installed no updates or service packs as I was being lazy at nearly 4 am.I then set first boot again to CD/DVD rom put in Vista disk and reinstalled Vista now my pc is up and running. All I can assume from this was either and update messed the machine or SP1.

I know this would be a long job but hey it is worth a try?

Why I will never know but it worked. It could work for you?

Iam running full install Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Ray firstly origonaly I had XP Pro installed then used Vista Ultimate 32 bit full install disk.
Then I installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit on top of this as I said full install disk not upgrade disk.

Ray to save yourself money reinstall XP then use your Vista 64 bit install disk and reinstall it.
Is this idea worth a try?To save youreslf some cash?

It is totaly worth a try?

I assume that any Vista upgrade disk could be installed straight ontop of XP?Hence called upgrade disk.

Vista hardlocks the HD when it detects a significant hardware change such as swapping the motherboard. I cannot remember if it detects new CPUs as significant hardware change but I remember I had a lot of headaches when swapping hardware around with Vista and ended up having to reinstall it every time.
