Question Re: Vista to WinXP

Hi there again, Sorry for not responding sooner,, after going to the gateway site I got confussed as what or how to download what I needed, also don't I have to have the full version (Retail) of XP before downloading any drivers?

I went back an re-read this thread and noticed that I had overlooked one thing you said about being able to share files back and forth from Vista and XP. This is what I really wanted to do and didn't know it could be done between the two different systems. I remembered how to go in and change XP to the WORKGROUP name but, I can't remember nbow how to use the sharing thing. (sounds silly but I have not been too sharp lately with the med. problems) so please forgive me for this. So can I use the "Tansfer Cable" to do this since they are both in the "workgroup" status?

I will try and see what happens,,,,,

Hello there I hope you are feeling much better?

To share your files vista to XP you drag to the sharing folder. Also sharing over a network should be setup.

Here are some links on how to do this type of thing:Windows Vista Help: Sharing files with the Public folder

If you drag files to the public folder in Vista and set permissions then XP can access them.
Windows Vista Help: Share files with someone
Windows Vista Help: File sharing essentials

I hope this helps?Let me know if you need any more help or experience any problems.

Question Re: Vista to WinXP

OK???

If you drag files to the public folder in Vista and set permissions then XP can access them

But what about sharing the other way? XP to Vista?? that is the problem I have had, can not go both ways. I have files that I moved with one of those usb stick's from Vista to XP but, it was a pain in the arse as I had to take part of what I wanted, download, delete from the stick and then go back and get the rest.

What I am trying to do is clean up some of the double entries and etc, that I have made with my Paint Shop Pro and Animation3 programs. I have saved a lot of pic's, frames, glitters, and etc,, and am trying to get it all sorted out and organized better than the mess I have now.

What I liked about the "Transfer Cable" (worked great between XP to XP) is I could go in and drag and drop what ever I wanted to where ever I wanted but, with Vista there are not any drivers that I can find for that cable to work with Vista and XP, only XP to XP.. The cable is USB 2.0 Linking cable, Radio shack p/n 26-725. it said on the supplied disk

"to install in a computer running Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP or later, simply install disk and follow instructions"

Well on this computer (Vista) I get the message no drivers available, contact the vendor. Unfortunately Radio Shack don't have much of a contact/support thing but I did message them through their site and have not heard a word back. Been a week now.

So that is why I thought I could make this Vista computer made into an XP, that way I could hook up all 3 of my computers to the hub and be able to accomplish everything without any problems as I did in the past with the 2 XP computers.

Does any of this make sense to you??

Thanks again for your patients,,
