Default Set .jpg to default 'open with' program, like in XP

Sounds like a stupid question, no?
Well, it's quite frustrating.

I don't quite remember what program i installed that switched the default of opening .jpgs, but it did change it.

I changed it back to 'Windows Picture Gallery,' but when i go to open a picture, it opens my gallery instead, and not a 'preview' of the picture.

In XP, the program it usually used was 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer'. Before i had to change this back, it was still using 'Windows Picture Gallery', but it was opening it as if i right-clicked and selected Preview.

What .exe or program can i select to view the picture, and not Windows Picture Gallery? This is a stupid question, but i think it's just from my lack of knowledge from Vista.

Any help would be great. google didn't help much.

ok, pretty simple.
this is for XP, but im sure it will be same or similar for Vista.

Right Click the image. goto "open with" then select "choose program..."
when the new window appears scroll down for "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" and click it.
Then click on the check box, which says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

Hope its similar on Vista

That's just what i'm saying

it's not the same. if it was, i wouldn't be posting.
I know how to change it, i just don't know what program that Vista uses that is the same as XP's picture and fax viewer.

Thanks anyways

If you want the same functionality, then I suggest you use one of the following programs;

Download FastStone Image Viewer
IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide

Thanks, but i'd rather use a default Windows program rather than install something. :\

I thought in Vista that windows photo gallery automated the pictures to Jpeg?Set pictures to be opened with this programm.

You can go to your pictures and change there properties.Or save as?

Maybe I am totaly wrong?
