Can anyone help me please?
I have recently bought a new computer which has Vista and have transfered everthing over from my old computer which has XP. Everything seemed fine until I tried to open some word documents. They looked like goble-de-****. How can I correct this.

Are you certain that the new version of Office that you have installed is newer than than the version you had installed on you old one? If you save a document in Word 2007, and try to open it in Word 2003 for example, it will appear garbled as you described. Otherwise, is there any chance you can attach one of the documents here for examination?

Thanks for your reply I made a mistake earlier. I had saved documents using microsftworks on my old machine which had windows xp on it when I had my new computer which has vista and microsoft office. I tried opening these documents on my new computer and they were garbled as you say. Can I rescue these documents.

Is it possible for you to reinstall Microsoft Works? Then you could open the documents in that.

Well, the best way would be to install Microsoft Works on your new PC? (assuming you haven't got rid of the cd?)

Or if you know anybody with Microsoft Works installed on their PC, you can resave them in Word format?
