Default [Resolved] BIG problem with Vista

I attempted to load the SP-1. It would not load so I contacted MS and received instructions three different days. After failed attempts with their first two instructions I then followed the third and have large problems.

MSresponse.zip are the answers from Microsoft

They recommended Update
Directions followed explicitly.

Halfway through the Windows install I received the blue screen:
************************************************** **********
A Problem Has Been Detected etc.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL

Etc, Etc, Etc

Technical Information
***STOP: 0x0000000A, (0x0965F77E), 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x810BA807
************************************************** **********

Would not reboot without blue screen into regular or Safe mode.

Finally obtained a reboot through MSI tab which allowed me to boot into Vista.

Every reboot takes me back to the blue screen.
It first offers: Screen
Windows Update
Windows Vista

But goes by fast and if I do not hit down arrow (to Windows Vista)and enter I get the blue screen.

I have even tried System Restore to take me back two days, no luck…
Still get blue screen on boot

Screenshot says this version of windows could not be installed??? It is the same one I used when I built the machine.

AM I going to have to erase my Hard Drive and start over?
I would settle on forgetting the SP-1 or reverting to XP

Hey Captain,

The most common cause of the 0A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL) Blue Screen of Death is normally caused by faulty memory.

However, in this case I believe that your problems are related to a known Microsoft issue. This is an issue that occurs when installing or upgrading Vista, if you have more than 3gb of memory installed. I see that you have 4. If this is the case, one solution then, in theory, would be to remove a stick of RAM and then try again, are you able to do this?

Hi MAD monkey,

The blue screen problem only started when the Update install was half done. It had not been a problem before. After removal of the 1gb stick should I attempt to Update again? Should I leave the 1gb stick out permanently? And yes I built the machine (first one) and can do the job, but probably not until tomorrow as my son and daughter in law are coming for drinks and would not want to try that after a couple drinks<G> Will post tomorrow with results thanks..

Walt

I check the download for machines with more than 3gb RAM. What confuses me is that the ram was there when I put the operating system (Vista) on the machine and had no problem.,.Why now??

Just temporarily for the update. Your initial question to Microsoft "installation does about 8% of pack1 and then quits" could have been caused by a multitude of problems including the Microsoft article listed above. The 0A BSOD can also be cause by either faulty RAM or the known Microsoft issue. It's the only thing that seems to fit all of your symptoms. Not sure if I have misread anything above.

Thinking about it, it may be best to leave just a single stick of memory during the update. If the problem happens again, swap with another stick, just incase one of the sticks is actually faulty. Did you experience any other symptoms prior to the update?

I experienced no problem at all before the update except that SP-1 refused to load as you said. Since the Update I have been plagued by the blue screen not just during Update but every boot unless I click very fast to (Vista Windows)...

Do you think loading the Error message when you try to install Windows Vista on a computer that uses more than 3 GB of RAM: "STOP 0x0000000A"???

Before removal of the Ram and see if it would cure the problem.

Unable to get into Safe Mode. Every attempt takes me to Blue Screen. Was able to stabilize on the selection screen, it now offers:
Windows Setup Rollback-Took me to Blue Screen
Microsoft Windows Vista-Let me boot
Memory Diagnostic tool-Ran no problems

One screen took me to
Windows Upgrade Running-
Expanding files at 21%
Attempt to quit gave me that I cannot quit at this point as it would destabilize the computer.

DUH guess it already did as my programs on the desktop are all screwed up. And running jp16 reg cleaner shows 6000 errors leftover program parts that are on the desktop.

If the Windows Upgrade is still running what effect is starting it again (after removing 3 gb ram) going to have?

Thanks Walt
