Never heard of jp16 reg cleaner, but how on earth are you running a registry cleaner if you can't get into Windows? Be careful with registry cleaners, some can really screw up your PC. The registry is a sensative part of Windows containing locations and settings of all your windows drivers, hardware and program information.

Did you try removing some of that RAM? Also, when running the upgrade it stopped at 21%? The fact the you were allowed to quit at the point suggests that it hadn't crashed, are you sure your not just being impatient? Try leaving it run overnight.

Sorry, you misunderstood. I am able to get into regular boot if I click the down arrow and enter when it gives me the screen.
Windows Update
Windows Vista

As I said that screen now offers
Windows Setup Rollback-Took me to Blue Screen
Microsoft Windows Vista-Took me to regular boot

Safe Mode took me to Blue screen.

Answer to the 21%
It has been running overnight, that is when I found the 21%. When it originally was Updating it rebooted at that point and that is when it went to the Blue screen I first described.

Some if not most of my programs on the desktop are messed up and will have to be reinstalled. It might be best to just clean the drive and reinstall all. What is the best way to format C?

Have not removed the ram, have not had the time but will try that shortly.

OK Captain. Let us know how it goes, but when it comes to doing the update, try to start the update from scratch, and not from the menu option. You may not be able to run any of your applications until the service pack installed as you only have a part installation right now, I'm suprised Windows is even starting up at all. Remember to also make sure that no other non-Microsoft applications are running in the background, no anti-virus, or anything running in the system tray... nothing.

If you descide to start from scratch, then the format is an option that takes place very near the start of Windows Setup. Install the service pack 1 immediately after setup.

Arauuuurg- Been working on this all day. Had more progress but....

1gb ram
Made it through to-first start of Windows---Then
"One Or More Components Could not Be Installed"

Failed-to

"Upgrade Not Successful
Previous Windows Being Restored
Do Not Restart"

(Went through its paces supposedly restoring )

Then it started on a Loop to the Upgrade not Successful and reboot etc etc etc.
I am still able to obtain Vista as the page still gives me the options
"Windows Setup Rollback" and "Windows Vista" before it loops into the above.

I am removing most nonessential programs and will retry, but hold little hope
Have no idea what is the problem......

So it looks like it was memory that screwed things up to start with. After rolling back, are your apps working again?

No luck. I tried taking off many of my programs and making sure that everything is backed up. Tried Update again with the same results. Guess I will do the "Custom install " and wipe the C drive.

Is there any way to format C without the install? If I could start with a clean drive I might get it working. I also might reinstall the XP...

The rollback caused a loop as before.
"Windows did not install" screen followed quickly by a reboot and over and over..

I have another copy of Vista that I will use if the "Custom Install" hangs for some reason
