Media player is giving me some trouble. It will play almost anything, movies tv shows without any problems. (except for missing codecs for some) but about 2 weeks ago i couldnt get any music to play. It will play, the progress bar will move normally, just no sound. It plays fine in other players just not WMP.

I have tried the all in one codec packs, codec tools to find broken ones. System restore will only go back to when sp1 came out. Ive tried Sfc/scannow. I even tried using the Vista disc to do a repair but i just got an error and couldnt do it.

Any ideas?

It's free-- download/reinstall-- That's what I do-- you could spend a lot of time trying to troubleshoot-- and install takes 5 minutes.

Ive tried that, but it says that i cant install an older version of the product. Sorry i forgot to mention that.

How it could be an older version...? I don't know. Perhaps because it is Vista--Do you have the Vista install disc ?
In any case --you could unninstall the curent one-- then edit the registry-- or run a scanner to remove the leftovers.
Then Reboot, download, reinstall.

Ive looked for ways to uninstall it but its connected to Vista somehow and ive read if i uninstall it it will mess up Vista. But how could i uninstall it with the Vista Disc? I'll try that to see if it works.

You should be able to remove it from add/remove... but this is Vista-- which is precisely why I don't have it.
Sometimes you have to run the install to UNinstall ?
