Default Vista Quits Running

Hi, all.

My new desktop HP Pavilion operates on Windows Vista Supreme Home Edition--and it's a supreme pain in the ****.

It is constantly quitting when I'm online, especially in Yahoo e-mail. Some days, I have to launch task manager three or four times in a matter of hours. I have Spysweeper and Norton anit-virus installed, and on my previous units, those sometimes seemed to cause trouble. Slow boot usually was the trouble, though, and this boots fine. I also have installed Logitech Quick Cam and Dragon Naturally Speaking. I leave both connected. Could this be any source of trouble? Should I unplug them on days I don't plan to use them? Or is this a matter of (1) a faulty computer that should go back to the store, or (2) adjusting settings?

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Sorry do you mean the PC shuts down or yahoo/IE7?

Try unplugging web cam and reboot see if that sloves it?

Thanks, jelly bean. The computer stays on--page will just suddenly freeze, and I'll have to close it through task manager, which invariably tells me "program is not responding."

I'll try your suggestion and post the result.

Hi,How much RAM do you have installed?
Freezing web pages
A few things you could check.
First off, make sure you aren't loading a whole bunch off Add-ons into IE

Launch IE and go to Tools > Manage Add-ons
Disable anything that doesn't look right.

An alternative to that would be to start IE 7 in Safe Mode (ie no Add-ons get loaded)
Start > Programs Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

If everything works find without the Add-ons you know it's one of them that is make a mess of ie.

If that still doesn't fix your problem, you can you the Windows File Protection Service to fix IE7

Start > Run > sfc /scannow

Should fix yahoo problem also.

Thanks, I'll try these and let you know. Unplugging QuickCam didn't help.

AMD 64 x2 dual-core, 32-bit op sys, RAM is 2942. I have 10 add-ons enabled. Nothing that I don't recognize--everything's Google, Adobe, Yahoo, etc. Still having the problem. Based on a past experience, I'm suspicious of using both the Yahoo toolbar and Google toolbar. Have you ever known that to cause problems? Should I disable one of them?
