i jus got a new laptop with vista home premium and every time i logon i hsve to press cntrl+alt+dlt and start explorer.exe manually. if i dont all i see is the black background and the "My Documents" window.

nope it will just load up a window showing my documents. js for fun i went to the windows folder on the harddrive and opended explorer.exe there after doing the cntrl+alt+dlt thing and it will open the same my documents window wthere is it suppose to do that.

Yes, when you run explorer.exe, if it's already started, it will open an explorer window

so that means wen i boot the pc it only opens the explorer window and not the deskttop?

Something's preventing it from loading the full desktop yes, can you access the Services window?
