Default Download Problem

Hi Guys,
A friend purchased new comp, when she tried to get it up and running there was nothing coming up on the monitor screen it was all black.

The system loaded up to the point of where the next thing u would expect to see is the little round windows icon on the screen.

I took comp,checked boot sequence,all seemed good,still nothing coming up,black screen still.

I ran a recovery disc and finally got Vista to load, loaded all updates etc etc and there was an optional update for Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT Graphics card.

Went through process of downloading update, all seemed well, then during download screen went all black again, rebooting comp was the same, black screen, again done recovery, done all updates etc, went to down load Graphics update, same thing happened.

Another recovery, this time I have not downloaded update for graphics card and it is running like a dream.

Has anyone any idea what might be causing this blackout?

This comp has Vista pre loaded into it though it certainly did not go through the process as it should have.

Thank you

Possible a loose connection if an adapter card. Always check inside the case for loose connections after a time of travel.

Thanks Geekgirl,

I will have a look see for loose connections.

One thing though, why does it do the problem only when I download update for graphics card,if I had loose connection would it not do it as it does when I download update.

Thank you
