How would i go about overwriting my laptop (which has vista) to XP? Im sure its not as easy as just putting in the XP disc and installing it (is it?) I wanna keep all the programs that are on it but get rid of vista and install XP.

Hi antoine, if you have an xp disc, yes it should be just a case of popping it in and overwriting the vista partition with the xp one. If you have a recovery disc (or a set of) it should just install without giving you partitioning options and overwrite everything (I think)

Unfortunately you won't be able to keep the programs you already have if you install xp over vista, they would all have to be installed again once you're done with the reformat. If you keep the setup files on a seperate partition or blank CD, it should make the process less time consuming. Depending on how many programs you have this may or may not be worthwile doing.

Hope that helps,

Pgh

If it was bought with Vista installed then check hardware and driver compatability before you install XP.

Ooops sorry Pgh.

well teh laptop I got had an online review stating that although vista runs on it the memory is so low on it that vista takes up more than half of it... and that review turned out to be right as I cant even open two or 3 IE windows without the laptop lagging or freezing somehow so Im guessing going back down to XP would solve the problem (unless you guys know a better solution) and yes the laptop was bought with vista

i could find out, besides isnt it a lot harder to replace laptop parts (hard drive memory etc etc) than pc? I dont mind adding and replacing part on a desktop been doin that for 10 years but the thought of opening up a small flimsy laptop scares me lol.
