Angry pulling hair out ready to throw new laptop!!!!!!!

ok i sure hope i get some help. ive had a brand new Toshiba satellite for about 3 weeks now. it has vista hp, 120g hd, intel pentium dual core w/ a gig of ram. as im sure you know it came full of junk that i quickly removed. this thing is testing my patients daily. it s runs slow as a snail. i have shut off most of the start ups through the msconfig. i have installed and use regularly ccleaner, uninstalled all the programs i feel comfy removing. i have done just about everything that i could think of and have read about online. i have no viruses, it came with both norton and mcaffe and i got rid of mcaffe and replaced it with avg. i was going to use the pc pit stop but am not going to pay for it. my internet is the most frustrating. it is slloooooowwwwww. im thinking that maybe norton is part of the problem but dont know what a good free alternitive is? it seems like vista has soo many things to configure that i think i may have it fighting itself. and still want to get rid of things that i think are **** like windows mail and that windows defender thing........and help would be stellar!!!!!!!

well for starters since posting the thread i have gone into the msconfig again and unchecked everything in start up except avg, and that includes norton. result my internet speed about doubled. but now i dont feel like im protected like i should. as far as stuff i uninstalled it was all the demos and trials that were junkware. i did downlaod the pc pit stop and it had a few recomendations for freeing up ram and internet option but of coarse wanted to charge me befor it would make the adjustments. i bought the pc from best buy and they offer an optimization for about $30 and im about ready to do it. ive got a ton of hard disk space free but out of my 1 gig im 72% full and i only put 2 or 3 programs on here that it didnt come with. like nero and bitcomet.

So you messed around with prosesses, programms etc now you need to stop fiddling with them. You went back and put things back the way they should be?So stop playing about with the OS untill you know exactly what yopu are doing?

I'd recommend NOD32 over Norton, I can't say Norton is good for laptops, hell, it slows down higher end desktops. NOD32 is fairly quick, not that expensive either.

I don't see the need to run more than one antivirus, although it does make it more secure, it's also going to make it extra slow.

I dislike Norton (and McAfee)'s requirement to have absolute control over the PC. It does make it slow, and I read somewhere that older versions of Norton allowed Government spy programs to run undetected.
