Default [Resolved] XP to Vista network printer help...

Hi all,
Can anyone help with this problem??....
I have just got a new laptop with Vista home premium my printer is running off the home desktop, cabled, which is XP professional.
Its all run via a netgear router. The laptop is wireless. My laptop can find the printer (Brother DCP-115C) but when i try to connect it gives me a 'access denied'.
Any ideas??

Lynn

This happens when you try to install a networked printer in Vista. I have gone threw this many times.
What you need to do is first remove all traces of the printer since you already tried. Remove form Add/Remove Programs and also Program Files if any orphan folder is left behind.

Then install it as a local printer not a networked printer. Then in the port selection use the path to the network printer - And it should work.

Microsoft Corporation
  1. the Windows Vista printer driver must be downloaded from the printers website.
  2. Install the driver on your Windows Vista computer. During installation, you’ll be prompted to connect the printer to your computer. Choose the option to proceed with installation without connecting the printer.
  3. After installation completes, open the Printers applet from the Windows Vista Control Panel.
  4. Right-click on the new Samsung SCX-4100 Series printer and choose Properties.
  5. Go to the Ports tab.
  6. Click Add Port…, select Local Port, then click New Port…
  7. For the port name, enter exactly the network path and share name of your printer (e.g. \\RECEPTION\Samsung SCX-4×16 Series).
  8. Click OK, and double-check that this new port is selected with the checkbox next to it.
  9. Click OK to close the printer properties.
or try downloading network magic.
