Default [Answered] Severe headache with Vista

Ok here we go...I have a Asus 3200+MB and a 64Bit Athlon processor with plenty of memory,I have XP Pro.I tryed to install Vista yesterday and could not get it to install, untill someone told me it has to be a NTFS format,so I did that with some weird dos commands, seemed to install until it rebooted and got the Blue screen. have 2 HD's one I use for storage, now one drive is NTFS and the other is a Fat32,can Vista run on a win32?anyway now my second HD got formatted and now i am using easy recovery to get my files back,I tryed to reformat the c:/ drive and the winxp os does not reformat now, please help, how can i get my system back to the win32?and how do i do a clean install of vista, after I reboot with the vista cd it will not load like the xp cd where it reads press any key to install what is happening? An both drives are raid 0-1 is that ok?SATa stripe 0-1 by the way

Hi maxcain,

Why are you trying to format it from DOS? You have to option to format it during Windows Setup?

I finally got it installed, the only weird thing is that it reads I have a Dell computer,is that because the person i got it from was using that?I very much like using the NTFS system versus the fat32 my PC runs alot cleaner and faster, how do i get this version of vista to read my pc instead of a dell?stuff like that tweaks my mellons.

Oh another quick ? i usually like to fomat my hd every 3 months to clean the clutter and used norton ghost, how do i do this with vista?should i use vista's backup files and do it that way without formatting anymore?

Dell do release their own release of Windows Setup, but you should be using your own legal and lagit copy of XP, rather than somebody else's.

NTFS has always been much more efficient and stable than FAT32 I must agree. Only Norton Ghost 12 will work with Windows Vista, so if you have a previous version, then you won't be able to use it. Vista Premium editions are meant to be released with a CompletePC backup solution which is the same thing (Microsoft took on Norton for this feature).

EDIT: Marked as Answered.
