I also want to do away with Vista and following your steps in the link you provided below I am unable to get past Fig.#5, the only XP disk I have is the one I purchased from Microsoft a couple years ago. It is Windows XP Home edition with the product key. I put it into the drive and then click on enter, the screen goes blank for a bit and then the same window comes back up. I read where you say;
"Of all the XP installs I've done I could count on two hands the number of times they have been done from full version CD's rather than upgrade CD's, so it's pretty likely you'll see this screen. The qualifying products are listed on the screen. Replace the XP CD with the qualifying product CD and press Enter.
My question is what is the upgrade cd and where and about how much is it? Does that mean I need that cd? Is that cd like Win. ME? I think I may have that one around here someplace. But do I need that PLUS the one I presently have to get XP installed on the computer?
I have already saved everything I want off of the computer so I am not worried about loosing anything in the process.
Anything you can tell me what to do will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Rich (homeinspec)

Once the cd loads, choice to delete the partition and format the drive, the steps are pretty simple after that.
