Default Vista Freezing

Hi all (again)

As the tread title says, I'm having problems with Vista Home Premium freezing on me.

This has only started since yesterday when I installed a Linksys WMP300N PCI wireless card. I've checked to see if there are any updated drivers available but Vista tells me that I've got the latest. I however assume this new hardware is the root of the problem.

The PC will freeze either during use - web browsing, etc. - or sometimes during startup.

The only programs that are usually running when it freezes are IE7 and winamp.

Any advice?

I assume you are checking for updated drivers through windows update? If so I recommend checking the linksys website and see if they have any newer drivers for your card.

Hope this helps

Have tried both. Used the drivers from the Linksys website during installation and used Windows Update to search for new drivers once the PC started to freeze.

*bump*

Still having grief with this wireless card. I disabled the card for two weeks and just ran a wired connection and had no problems at all. Yesterday I reinstalled the Linksys WMP300N wireless card with the latest drivers from the Linksys website (again) but as expected, my PC froze.

I've been reading about compatibility issues between the card and motherboards. Not sure what motherboard I've got but my machine is an Inspiron 531 if that helps. I've also read about drivers from different manufacturers being modified -references changed to the linksys card...or something- but not sure what drivers to try or how to go about this.

Any fresh eyes have any ideas?

Starting to get p'd off with the ethernet cable running through the house!
