Ever since I upgraded to vista I have been having issues with performance. I would get slowdown random restarts. Now everytime I startup vists I get a black screen but I can still see my mouse cursor. I tried to start in safe mode but it did the same thing. I am starting to think its a hardware issue any help would be greatly appricated.

I apologize for the delay in response.

I would doubt it is a hardware problem since you are at least getting into Vista but just not showing the desktop. Does it at least get past the Vista splash screen and welcome screen? Or does it just show a black screen during the boot process and you don't even get to see the beginning of Vista?

Do you have a lot of important data you would fear losing if you did a full restore of Windows?

If you aren't even getting to see the Vista splash screen, then you can try running Memtest (click my link below, free download) and a hard drive diagnostic which you can download for free from the manufacturer of your hard drive. Both tools you will make a bootable CD or DVD with and boot to it then run the utility. The diagnostics will test your memory and hard drive for problems.

Let me know a bit more info and we can go from there

There will be more spikes and stickey patches with Windows Vista because it has not been out for very long. Well not as long as Windows XP lol

Windows Vista is a right RAM ***** (IF I CAN SAY THAT) But it is true. And if you can, it is a wise idea to change a couple of settings so that it is more stable.

Although it can be run nicely on a 1gb stick, i wouldn't recommend it. Reason being is that i have Windows Vista Home Prem on my desktop and 1gb or RAM and is right slow, Spikes galor
