Windows Vista - Is hibernate bad for a computer? posted in the Operating Systems forums; I often put my computer in hibernate or standby for faster booting. Im just wondering is this a good thing to be doing, like dose it ware out the computer. ...

Default Is hibernate bad for a computer?

I often put my computer in hibernate or standby for faster booting. Im just wondering is this a good thing to be doing, like dose it ware out the computer. Maybe i just need a better understanding of what it means to be in stanby or hibernate.

oh no. all hibernate is, is it saves what is in the RAM to the harddrive and boots from it, so it resumes. the computer turns off is all

Ok so if there is no diffrenc, but yet its faster then why isnt that just the normal procedure for shutdown like built into the OS. Becuse i know i love being able to hit the power button and having the login screen pop up right that instent.

because then it isnt possible to do a clean-boot, where if there is a problem, the system can be restarted without any programs running

O well that sort of makes since, so for the most part im still fine doing it almost all the time.

What Hibernate does, is switches the computer to a low power state, without actually powering it off, you can leave documents, and files open, hibernate the PC and then quickly resume the session when you want to.
