Default [Resolved] New Webcam

I baught this new webcam for my computer which i was very excited about, but i'm upset because i cant get the driver software installed. Its a Philips webcam, and on the installation cd it says to visit Contact & Support to download the right driver (which i did). When i plug my camera in, it tries to install the camera and then wont because i get an error message saying that it has an unknown license (or something?). I've tried using the CD to install the camera driver, and then tried plugging the camera in (didnt work) and i also tried going to that site to install the camera driver and then plugging the camera in (that also doesnt work). I have windows Vista, and i would love to get this camera working because i spent a lot of money on it Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Hello Lightangel,

You have pretty much done everything to get that camera up and running. If it still isn't working you may want to contact technical support to see if there are known problems with Vista.

What error message does it give you with that license thing (word for word)? Do you get any other error messages?

Let's go from there

Ok, sounds like a good plan

Well i went back to the site to reinstall the vista compatable driver software, and i got an error message right before it finished installing that said "A program caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"...any ideas what that could mean? What program is preventing it from installing correctly?

Default Re: New Webcam

After searching for that error message in the Microsoft Knowledgebase, I found a couple of articles for problems similar to yours. One was an error in Word, and one was an error in Ifranview.

In Word, Vista said to ignore it. For Ifranview, they have a hotfix for that problem. Other than that, it doesn't seem like there is a generic fix currently for that error message.

In the Ifranview page, it said do not download the hotfix if you are not experiencing the exact problem. Just wait for a service pack to hopefully fix the incompatibility issue you are experiencing.

From what I gather, it seems like it is just some sort of incompatibility with Vista.

I would try to run the setup program in Windows XP compatibility mode. Right click on the setup executable, then click properties, then go to the compatibility tab, then switch it to XP compatibility mode. I haven't yet done that in Vista, so to find the compatibility mode, it may take a slightly different method.

If that doesn't work, I can only imagine the setup program for that webcam is just not compatible with Vista. The only thing I would think to do at that point is call the contact the company directly and tell them the issue you are having and hopefully they know how to handle it.

Hope that helps!

I hate to say this, but i'll probably be returning the webcam as well (i returned a game as well for not being Vista compatable, i was sad, so i got another game instead)...my fiance cant be bothered worrying about how we can maybe fix it, i'll probably just buy another camera and hopefully that one will be Vista compatable. Its a shame, too because the camera matched my nice new computer perfectly (silver and black)...I just wanted to inform everyone so that you can mark this thread as "resolved" so that no one tries to figure out whats wrong if i'm bringing it back, you know? Thank you for the help though, i'll let you know how the next webcam works out

LightAngel'

A good cam that is compatible with Windows Vista is the Microsoft LiteCam. I had the same experience you have had with cam problems and incompatible software. The cam is a little pricey, but the picture quality is great, plus it has a microphone built into it also. An added plus is that it is a usb cam so you won't experience the feedback problems in your speakers when using a desktop mike. There are other cams on the market but this one is really great
