Windows Vista - [Answered] Disk Defrag? posted in the Operating Systems forums; Can anyone tell me a good Disk Defrager what works ok with Windows Vista?...
If you do not already have it you could use CCleaner,it is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space.Download button is on top righthand side of page. This is not a disk defrag, but a great tool to keep things clean, its free and easy to use. Link is below.
Another vote for Diskeeper 2007. Try out the Pro version from their trial downloads section. It works well with Vista, and both the manual and automatic modes are great. Even in the auto mode, it runs without impacting other running apps, and you dont have to manually defrag once you've turned it on. I recommend you turn it on for one partition on each disk that sees the most activity. I have it turned on for my XP partition and the program files partition, while my video and mp3 folders see only manual defrags every week if required.
First run ccleaner and clean up the drive of temporary files and empty the browser caches, and then run defrag, so that defrag time is minimized.
