I have a PC with Windows 2000 installed. The mobo is bust and I need to get a new one. I know that an upgrade to Vista is possible from Win2k although a clean install is required, but I am concerned that I can only upgrade from a running Win2k PC (as opposed to booting of the instalation disk as you can with XP) and if I replace the mobo I will need to lay down a new HAL. So does that mean I have to get a full copy of Vista ? I do not have the Win2k installation disk.
