Hello friends,

A gaming buddy of mine just moved away to college and we want to play Diablo 1 over the internet. Today he installed the game and it runs normally but in order for him to play over the internet he needs to patch the game..

This is where the problem occurs. He dowloads the patch off of the games website and when he tries to run the patch he gets the error..

"the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows your running. Check your computers information to see whether you need an x86 or x64 version"

So this sounds pretty straight-forward. The patch is not compatable with the 64-bit of Windows. My question is, does anyone know a way around this?

Any advice would be highly appreciated. If you need anymore information please ask.

Right click on the Patch and select Properties, then click Compatability, and select "Windows XP". Ok you way out. Then right click again and select "Run As Administrator"

Hmm, I am sorry to say it didn't work. I wonder if there is any way around this. Perhaps his only answer is through dual booting XP or using something like Microsofts Virtual PC?

I would try Virtual PC first, as that can run on Vista, if not im afraid its a dual boot.

That sounds to me like there are 2 patches, one for 32-bit (x86) and one for 64-bit (x64).

Rodents, it's just a standard windows message meaning "this program doesn't run on x64 windows"

Diablo1 is too old to run in new OS...considering it was designed when Windows 95 was on the market...
