Default [Resolved] Just bought laptop from pcworld (in uk) and think it may have virus,

Hello everyone, I bought a laptop from pcworld on Friday, specs are as follows:

Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi model BL 50
Intel Core 2 Duo T5500, 1024MB RAM, 80GB HD
Windows Vista Home Premium

Anyway plugged it in for first time yesterdy and went to control panel and double clicked on system as I always do to make sure I have the spec as it says (and have not been ripped off). It wouldn't open. I thought this was strange but just thought it may be just some security feature of vista as not used it before.

So i carried on and installed norton 360 all in one security. It appeared to install correctly. I set it up on the internet and noticed that it said windows could not update. Also there was an unknown error with Windows defender. As I tried to look into problems it became apparant that a number of things weren't working. When I double clicked on the icon to find out why windows update didn;t work a window flashed up and then quickly dissappered.

I then looked in msconfig and saw a strange file with Chines letters, I unchecked it but stil problems. This sounds like a virus but before we installed anytihng, is this possible? I'm on my way to take it back to pcworld this afternoon - will they have to replace it or will they start saying it's my fault? It DEFINITELY didn;t work straight out of the box though.

Anyone know what this is? Many many thanks for any help?

-Jenny

have no idea what it could be, but as for the returns, it depends on the staff, if theyre lazy they will probably just blame you to sve exchanging it, if this happens then just keep complaining and ask for the manager, but i would say that they should replace it for you

Thanks people, went in and they reinstalled windows and it worked fine until I installed Norton 360. Apparantely there is a conflict with the graphics card drivers on some acer mobiles with Norton 360 - that's the prob so I'm basically going to have to avoid that. It's quite ironic that I picked up the virus from Norton anti-virus software.

I've spent all day sorting this out!

Thanks a lot.
