Question [Answered] Stopping sidebar from running

How do you stop Vista sidebar or whatever from running on startup? I have unchecked the option to have it run on startup, I would try using RunAnalyz but it won't run on Vista, there's no startup shortcut and there's no entry in my Run key... And yet it still starts up. How do I stop it?

Hi spaceman.
Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Windows Sidebar (No need to do this if it's already running).
Right click the icon in the system tray and select properties. In the window that appears at the top should be a box which says "Start sidebar when Windows Starts".
Just untick this and it won't run on startup

Thanks Cowburn, but I have done that already and it continues to run.

I take it you have looked at MSConfig already?
  • Go to Start>Run or press Windows + R
  • Type “msconfig” and click OK
  • The System Configuration dialogue box will be displayed, select the Startup tab
