Arrow Me, windows vista and my usb modem

Ok to kick this off I'll start by saying im a pc moron and will need things really dumbing down to understand .

Ok my new PC arrived today fresh from the Dell outlet store on Ebay, it has Vista on it. Currently on my old Pc(The one im on at this moment) I use AOL broadband 9.0 with the bt voyager 105 usb modem which was provided by aol. When I came to install the drivers required for the modem onto my new PC an error came up and after checking on the aol website apparently vista doesnt work with any usb modem.

By the sounds of it I will have to download aol broadband 9.0VR on this pc and transfer it to my new one and buy a new modem product for my new pc if you could help me out with this that would be a real help.

My new pc does not have a modem-card-thing in it as when i bought it i didnt think id need it as I assumed I would be able to use the bt voyager 105 modem, silly me.

Basically i need telling as simply as possible if there is no way i can use the bt modem what i need to buy to get back on broadband,
cheers
Royston

It is not Vista that can't work with modems via a USB connection. It is AOL that apparently has the problems. If you stay with AOL, then you will have to do things their way.

Does any one here use AOL? If so, perhaps you can provide specifics as to AOLs requirements.

To be honest with you thats what I suspected as I couldn't believe the new version of windows would register usb modems obsolete, the aol website however disgusies this well and makes it out to be vista's fault

USB modems are not yet compatible with Windows Vista. If you wish to install Windows Vista, you will need to purchase a modem router.
If it was my choice I wouldnt be on AOL but i don't pay the bill.....

If you must have a router, I would get a ZIO Network Router, Measuring 135x88x34mm - SDT Information Technology Co., Ltd. router. It cost about $40 USD. It's small and you can plus four computers into it. You might have similar router at your friendly neighborhood computer store.

Good Luck...
