Default [Answered] lost mouse.

i built my computer with some friends, and i have vista x64 on it. recently my logitec optical mouse which instead of a random usb port uses the "mouse" port, just stopped functioning. i changed the battery, unplugged and re-plugged in the cable but it still doesnt work. it is wireless but the received receives well with the keyboard.
so i switched to a older wired mouse of mine, which worked fine on a usb port for couple days. this morning it just stopped working again, even after restarting. i tried different usb ports but other than the mouse itself having lights on, it does not move a bit.
anyone might have an idea why that is? thanks

also, my pc has a ton of random crashes, like all the time. could that imply theres something wrong when i was putting the hardwares together?

Hello ere, welcome to PCHF.

It's only speculation at this point, but will need much more investigation before we find the main cause to your problems. It may just be co-insidence, however I'm very much drawn to your motherboard. A short or power surges can cause all of these issues. The odd screw forgotten about and left behind the motherboard I've seen countless times. Some poor quality motherboad manufacturers to name but a few causes.

For the moment, can you please list the full spec of your PC. Also, when you PC crashes, what happens, does the cursor simply freeze on the screen, do you get a blue screen of death or does your PC shutdown?

the mouse problems are like when you suddenly unplug the mouse from the usb port, when it freeze on the screen.

Ok ere. specs are OK. Can I confirm your power supply is at least 350w? Are you also using surge protection?

When you PC freezes, are you able to use the keyboard at all? Have you tried using a USB mouse?

just restarted again. i tried a different port and the mouse worked. and i switched back to the one i have been using and the mouse still works fine... but i am really not sure when it will happen again.
power supply is 550W, but i guess i need to note that i do have 3 hard drives running. once i hooked all the harddrives up and an external fan and the computer failed to start up.

in many cases i am able to move my mouse and use my keyboard when the pc freezes, but the desktop features fail the respond in a while, such as the start menu pops up upon i hit the windows key, but i cannot click anything on it; or i try to open an application and it does not run, then ctrl-alt-del doesnt respond, and when i try to click around on the desktop EVERYTHING freezes including the desktop (wallpaper/icons).

Hey ere, that does actually widen the area of possible causes a bit.

The same symptoms can occur if the motherboard is starved of power. Check out: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator v2.5. (click on Go Lite). 550w should still be fine however you may still have hardware I'm not aware of.

EDIT: Marked as answered.
