Exclamation Vista Backup Problems

Ive had an hp dv2000 laptop for a few weeks now and yesterday I was on a forum online when I got a windows error and had to reboot. Long story short, I couldnt boot in safe mode or normally, ended up reinstalling vista as hp comes with a recovery partition. Before I reinstalled it asked me if I wanted to backup my files, I said yes and it went on backing up and reinstalling. The computer works fine now except for the fact that my recovery partition is full at 6 GB when it had 3 before the reinstall. The extra 3 gb was from 2.5 gb of music and pictures from a recent trip to england 2 weeks ago. I cant access my backed up files as the backup utility says that there arent any backed up files when I know there are. Even if the backup didnt work and I was wrong about it having free space before, I doubt hp would create a partition with only 250 mb of free space left for backups. Has anyone encountered this problem before? I know its more of an HP problem than a vista problem but Im posting this in a few locations to try and get some answers so I can backup some files sometime and possibly get my pictures back. Thanks a lot

As you implied, HP might have created their own backup function. Sometimes backups cycle through. Like 123 becomes 234 becomes 345. So the backup doesnot require any more space. It just utilizes the space it has already alloted.

I would recommend you do as I did. Acquire an external HDD and store your valuable data on the external HDD. That way if you need to reinstall Vista or reformat, your personal files will be save in the external drive. Also, if your laptop starts acting funny, you can always disconnect your external drive and protect your personal files while you trouble shoot the problem with the laptop.

As for specifics on your laptop's backup configuration, HP would be the best source on that unless we have a member who has the same backup configuration on their computer.

Good Luck...

Ya I was planning on gettting an external HD anyway for backups on my computer and other when reinstalling. Thanks for your help though.
