Question [Resolved] Safe Mode

Using Vista HP.
During reboot, pressed F8. Selected Safe Mode option.
Within Safe mode, window opened to install Windows (Da?).
Upon closing window, computer closed Safe mode and proceeded to bootup Vista.
Repeated procedure and got the same results.

Does anyone recognize this process. How do I get into Safe mode without the install window opening?

Thanks...

....to be honest i've never booted into safe mode for vista...haven't needed to.

Very odd - i'll ask around the office with other guys who have used it to see if they've got any idea.

Don't run that trash myself just yet but what you say gandalf regarding getting into safe mode is not logical.
Your comment is perfectly logical but why would the OS want to re/install just to get into Safe Mode?

Weird.

I fixed the problem.
I had the Vista install DVD in the drive, when I was pressing the F8 key.
I think I was pressing F8 at the same time that the computer was asking if I wanted to boot from the CD/DVD drive (since I have the CD/DVD drive as first boot in the BIOS priority chain).
So the computer (garbage in, garbage out) did both.
It put me in the Safe Mode and it started up the DVD autorun program.
I don't understand why when I canceled out of the DVD run it also exited the Safe Mode.
But, I am not really that concerned about it.
I'm just happy that I can access the Safe Mode should I need to in the future.

Sorry for the false alarm.
It seems I need to occasionally do something really dumb to remind myself I'm still human. Boy! Do I feel human.
