Default [Resolved] Media Player plays .wmv files badly

Hi, after a good instal of Vista Ultimate 32 bit, WMP 11 cannot play .mwv files correctly. All file types (.avi mpeg and .wmv) can be imported into Movie maker and played fine.

heres a link to a screen shot of an attempt to play on of the free .wmv files:

What do you think? I have tried uninstalling the april 2007 update, and no change. I'm just going to reinstall it now.

Any help will, as always, be appreciated.

Cheers

You might try installing this -
Free-Codecs.com : QuickTime Alternative 1.81 : QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player.

Good Luck...

Thanks for the suggestion Gandalf. I have installed 1.81 Lite (I don't want the player) and no change.

I'm thinking it cannot be a codec issue as it plays fine in Movie Maker which is part of Vista Ultimate, so surely something somewhere must be right.

Am I in the wrong forest, let alone barking up the right tree??

My next thought is to uninstall WMP 11. That should roll it back to WMP 10.
Let's see if WMP 10 will work. If you only have WMP 11 installed, then you can get WMP 10 from here - Windows Media Player 10

Good Luck...

No, not both.
Uninstall 11.
You will either be rolled back to 10, or you can install 10 after uninstalling 11.
