My mates got a pc with the following specs and he wants 2 upgrade to vista, but he dosent know if he needs the 32 or 64 bit version, can you help please? the specs are as follows


INTEL P4 (PRESCOTT) Processor Type
3000 mhz Processor speed
512 Mb RAM Memory
120 Gb Hard Disk Capacity
16X DVD Speed (DVDR,DVDRW,DVDROM)
128 Mb Radeon 9200 Graphics card
17" TFT
Modem
WIN XP HOME Operating system
1 Year FREE Warranty

Unless your mate is some computer Geek or wants to calculate the orbits of Galaxies, I suggest he looks at the 32 bit version.

He can run this - Vista Readiness Test - on his machine.

I'd say 32 bit. Also he should be looking at a minimum 1gb of RAM as 512 is the absoloute minimum for Vista to be honest.

Something else to consider. Recommend your mate have more than a dial-up connection such as a DSL connection.

Looking at those specks, he needs to upgrade the RAM or the computer will be very slow. Maybe more video RAM as well if he can do that. If he is just upgrading because it's there, tell him that it would probably just be a waste of money.
