Default Vista and Games

Hi
havent posted here for a while.

Ok my computer is happily powerfull enough to run vista, which i'm pleased about seeming i made this computer 4 years ago and it's still **** fast. However i play alot of high demading games, and with the high demand of power from the OS, is this going to slow and make me run my games in lower modes.

I have:
Pentium 4 HT 3.0ghz Prescott
1024mb DDR 800mhz RAM
80 Gig hard drive ( soon to be replaced by 2x SATA)
256MB ATI X800Pro Toxic (overclocked by manafacture)
5.1 On board sound
and various other little bits and bobs

I play games like FEAR, Half Life 2 etc. All high power demanding games

Will vista take all the performance???

Thanks

What version of Vista are you going to get? Basic wont hurt you too much but all the others will with only 1 gig of memory

The only thing that would hold you back would be your 1gb of RAM...XP uses around 400mb of ram (without tweaking)...Vista uses 800mb (with aero turned off).

I'd recommend going to at least 2gb of ram is you want to play games AND run vista.

My opinion is that if you have not bought the disk, don't. It would be a waste of your money. You can't do anything with Vista that XP can't.
3.0 Ghz processor 4 years ago? Wow! My 3.2 is pushing 2 years now and it still runs like it was out of the box.

But if you wanted Vista just to prove somthing, I understand

There's heaps of stuff Vista can do that XP can't...

But I'm talking more of a security/network administration point of view then a home user point of view
