Default Sony CDR830X on Vista Problem

purchased about two years ago an Inspirion 5160 which came preloaded with XP Home with SP2. The Disc drive was a Sony CDRW/DVD CDRX830 combo drive. It worked great on XP. Once I upgraded a few months ago to Vista Ultimate, it seems to see all discs inserted as blank and does not update the information in My Computer. If I reboot with a disc in, I am able to use that disc, but once I insert another one, it acts as if it is blank again. Dell Online Support was unable to help because I didn't purchase Vista from Dell.
I would like to find a way to resolve this ongoing issue. Can anyone help?

Howdy Elmoduke...

I have seen allot of this.. The easiest way to get rid of the problem, is go into your device manager, and uninstall the DVD drive and reboot Vista will pick it up upon reboot with it's own Generic Drivers..

If it does not work please post back and let us know either way..
