Exclamation [Resolved] Vista Driver Problems

Hi please can someone help me...

I am trying to install an Infrared (IrDA) USB adaptor on my Laptop running VISTA HOME PREMIUM. I tried installing it and when I use it I get a blue screen error page and my computer reboots.

I have contacted HP and have tried the following steps but still same error
- Updating BIOS
- Complete System Reboot
- Uninstalling Hardware (yes this works but defeats the object, as I need IrDA Connection)

After abit of reading on the internet some sites say there are no available drivers for IrDA Adaptors. Is this true?

Does anyone know of an Irda Adaptor that is supported by Windows Vista? I wouldnt bother however some of my Hardware requires IrDA connection so it is imperative it works.

Help in this Matter would be very much appreciated.

Ok great thanks just heard that theres a big service pack out for Vista soon just hope its going to fix all the little bugs.

Just one more thing... This IrDA Adaptor you pointed me too does it enable me to send and receive information or is it purely a receiver?

Thanks again

Not sure when the service pack is out, but vista won't be touching my families pc's till it does come out and the bugs are sorted.

I'm not too sure i presume it'll send/recieve, have you checked with the manufacturer of the IrDA stick whether they have a driver update?

Apparently, MS put Vista on the market before all the hatches were battened down (big surprise). Third party vendors are in a rush to come up with compatable software and drivers for their products. I would not especially trust either Vista or third party Vista products for about a year. I am finding that products that claim Vista compatability are not necessarily successful. I have a monitor with speakers attached. The speakers worked under XP, but Vista sees the monitor as Generic PnP. The Vista driver cache is far from complete compared to XP's cache, because the drivers have not been written yet.

Before Vista, MS was very conscious about downward compatability. It appears that MS through the compatability book out the window for Vista.

As for contacting the manufacture, I wish you luck. You'll need it.

I disagree wabeard,

Vista is perfectly fine...they have been developing it for 6 years now, and it's not MS's fault that they delayed the launch of it, and vendors still couldn't get their acts together and supply drivers for it.

MS's biggest thing with Vista was to get people upgraded and away from older operating systems - hence why they have also officially stopped supporting older 95/98/ME/NT. And also why they threw the compatability book out the window.

They're only supporting 2000 because a large amount of people are still using it, and it intergrates (poorly) with 2003 and the new longhorn server when it comes out.

Have you tried a Windows XP driver? I had to resourt to some of my old XP drivers to get some of my hardware to work. May not be perfect, but it should work.
