XP has a "footprint" of around 300mb of ram....games are running into this limited amount of ram and causing all sorts of grief to people. You need the hardware to support both Vista AND the game at the same time. A bit unfortunate and pricey really...but...*shrug* the price of the latest and greatest

Yeah. I'm getting a new desktop soon that will hopefully be able to support Vista and games. I was going to up my RAM but its old RDRAM and would cost me about $400 to get up to 1.5GB, so I said forget it.

The laptop I bought wasn't for gaming anyway. I needed it for business so 1GB was perfetly fine and has no problems running Vista and all the programs I use. Laptop hardware doesn't have very good support anyway though, so I guess I shouldn't blame my gaming problems solely on Vista.
