Question [Answered] Vista on Second PC?

Hello!

I just bought a brand new laptop (woo) and it came included with a pre-installed copy of windows Vista home premium. I am using my Desktop PC with XP pro still.

Anyway, the laptop came with a disk labeled "Windows Anytime Upgrade". Is it possible to install vista on my desktop, and use the serial number on the back of the laptop? Will this effect future re-formats of the laptop/desktop?

Nope im afraid not spud. It is illegal and besides probably wouldn't work. You will need another copy.

I will explain Windows Anytime Upgrade for you:

Windows Anytime Upgrade is a scheme run my Microsoft to make it easy for you to upgrade between different versions of Windows Vista. All vista discs have every version on them but your serial code only relates to one, if for example you were on Vista Home Basic and you wanted to upgrade to Home Premium you would phone Microsoft and buy a serial code and simply use that instead of having to buy a new disc. Im not sure if there are other methods other than ringing MS.

Hope that explains it for you

Chris

upgrader is 100% correct.. In addition the disc will notice the new hardware you are putting it on and will not get through the HAL (hardware abstraction layer) so it would not even boot up past the press any to boot off you're dvd rom
