Welcome to the PCHF and enjoy the forums.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by recognizing. Are you seeing your files and getting an "Access is Denied" message (or folders showing up as empty)?

it doesnt even seem that vista is picking up the hdd. it doesnt show up under available drives under my computer.

i have everything set to auto in dos. in there it sees my main hdd, but when i put fat32 it doesnt even show up.

Hmm. I'm not sure what to say. I'm assuming your HDD worked fine before using Vista. I'm not exactly an expert with Vista either as I've only used an early beta. I'm going to see if I can have this thread moved or copied to the Vista Forum and see if someone there might have some more expertise on this matter.
