Default Dual Booting?

Hi all. This is my first post.

I have Windows Vista Home Basic, and to be honest, all the program compatability issues are pathetic. I have an XP CD and valid license and would like to be able to have a this as a second OS on my already-partitioned HDD. Is this possible? How do I do it?

Thanks
Tom.

Welcome to PCHF.

The easiest way to do this is a bit time consuming but it works! You will need to install XP first on your PC (in the primary partition). After you have installed XP in that partition, you can install Vista (thru Windows) on the new partition. After they are both installed, you will automatically get a boot menu that will call XP "Earlier version of Windows" and will also give you "Microsoft Windows" (this is Vista).

Hi, Thanks for replying..

The problem is Vista came preloaded on the Laptop - I have no Vista CD.

Is there a way to install XP on the second partition without having to uninstall Vista??

Thank you
Tom.

This looked good when I saw a write up a month or so ago: VistaBootPRO - Go PRO with Windows Vista and VistaBootPRO

I don't understand that program at all?

I tried running it but vista said there was an error and it must close...

I'm confused!

Thanks
Tom.
