Default windows vista vs microsoft outlook

Hi All

I am hoping someone out there can help me with a problem. I have recently purchased a new pc and have windows vista on it. I installed my old office disks onto it which includes Microsoft Outlook 2000. Since the installation I am having no problems with receiving mail, however, every time I start outlook up the following happens:

It tells me that outlook is not currenlty my default mail program, so I tell it that I want it to be, It then asks me to enable the macros and I do this, then it comes up with an error message:
'unable to locate the windows address book - wab dll file'

I had a look around the internet for others having this problem and it seems that people have had this problem with all versions of windows when the new programs have come out. They suggest on these forums to manually copy and paste the wab dll files into the directory. I have tried this and it does not make any difference. If I try and import the file as soon as I click on import/export it has the same error message mentioned above. I also can not access my address book or send emails as it says the wab files are missing.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled office in the hope that it would pick up the missing files, this has failed too.

If anyone has a fix for this problem I would really appreciate any suggestions. It is frustrating to have a new pc and not be able to use it properly.

Thanks heaps in advance.

Kind Regards

Cuddles

PS: I am a bit of a learner with all of this so step by step instructions in english would be helpful too!

Hi cuddles, welcome to the PCHF.

I've done a search around the internet for you...(I'm very fast at finding information)...and it appears it's an incompatability issue between Vista and Office 2000.

Unfortunately anything under Office 2003 has officially stopped being support by Microsoft, so the likely hood of a patch being released to fix this issue is slim to nill.

Sorry I don't have better news for you.
