I just need to transfer data from my old PC (running Win2K) to my new PC that I just bought (running Vista). I ran the ethernet cable straight without using any router (seeing as how this worked in the past). But I can't get either computer to recognize the other. Vista recognizes a network but not any computer within it. Is this just cause of the vast difference in OS, or can it work?
You will need to use a Crossover cable to do transfers like that. Check the small text on the cable and you will most likely not see the words cross-over....more then likely it will have UTP patch on it.
