Hi all. I have a PC and a laptop both running Vista (one has ultimate the other home premium). The PC is wired via ethernet straight to my router, and the laptop connects via wireless.

My problem is that I can't for the love of god view shared folders on my PC from my laptop. Its fine the other way round, from the PC I type \\SCOTT-LAPTOP in explorer and I can see the shared folders on there fine. If I try typing \\SCOTT-PC from the laptop it complains that the computer could not be found. This is also the case if I try the IP of the PC (192.168.0.2). Vista file and network discovery is enabled, and the PC shows up in network places and is also detected in the network map on the laptop. The computer names are correct, and they are on the same workgroup.

I have noticed that in my router settings, when I click to see attached devices it lists the laptop name but for the PC it lists the name as "UNKNOWN" - if that's any help.

Has anyone had the same experience? Could anyone suggest something I can try?

Are you saying that you can't even ping the IP on the other PC?

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)

Something fundemental is wrong. Re-check the IP range, subnet and dns settings. Also, update the drivers for the network card. Make sure you have a common user OR simply share out a folder with "everyone" access.

I've got it working.. The problem was Live OneCare was blocking file sharing etc.
