Default MSN error 8000306

Hey, Joined the forum because I need some help with the above error code. I have only had it since I got my new computer with vista on it. I am connected to the net through a Netgear DG834 router but had no problems with the same setup on XP.

I did resolve the problem by putting in a command prompt, but i cant find the website i read it on. Any one got any solutions to the problem?

Thanks
Ben

Welcome to PCHF!

Do you use ZoneAlarm firewall?

Cheers, Nah im currently using the Windows Firewall, and have a 30-day McAfee free trial which i think has its firewall turned on also.

I did have MSN working fine Saturday night, but when i restarted my computer yesterday it has started not working again.

It is more than likely related to the firewall software. Can you please dis-able it temporarily - even uninstall it and then test the MSN connection after a re-boot.

Welcome to the PCHF Bmorgan,

Believe it or not - I had the exact same issue with my computer when i first upgraded to Vista...the post can be located here - http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-v...ta-issues.html

The excert you will be interested in is right here...

Eventually, I pinned it down...the majority of this issue, was occuring off Netgear based routers (of which i have one)...located the latest firmware...and bang...problem solved.

Am in work at the moment so when i get home i will uninstall McAfee as i dont want it anyway. Should I disable Windows firewall too? Is it not dangerous to have no firewall running on my computer?
