I have just upgraded one of my computers to vista I have set up networking I can see all computers on all pcs but when I try to access some files on the vista from the xp computers it says I need permission and other files I am able to access fine I DO NOT want to put everything in the public folder as everything is on 12 different hard drives and won't fit on 1. I've been to several forums and noone seems to know whats wrong I've seen others on the forums with the same problems and they haven't got a working answer yet

Welcome to the PCHF Hisnag,

If you right click on the shared folder and select "Security and Sharing" or "Properties".
Select the Security tab. Make sure there is an entry "Everyone" with read access.

See if this helps at all.

Hehe, glad to hear it worked!

It's what I do for a living so I would want to get it right first attempt

Marked as Fixed.
