Thank you for that information. Have patience. I'm researching the problem to see if there is any kind of workaround. Our db doesn't seen to have anything similar on "acpi". If anyone already has a fix ... speak up ... otherwise I'm working on it.

ACPI or (power management/plug and play) was rolled out with Windows 98. How old is the computer? To run XP on a non-compliant BIOS required a configuration to the Standard PC BIOS via F7, an option I have been unable to find in Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314830

Even with the work-around, running XP with a Standard PC BIOS will cripple several key features.

Check with the motherboard (or computer) manufacturer for an updated BIOS. If the BIOS is up to day, then I suspect you might not have installed it correctly.

Good Luck...

The only other this I can suggest, is go into the BIOS and set it to all default values.

Hi. i just bought Compaq Presario with pre-installed Vista. Why is it running so slow? when i think that Compaq knew that it can run Vista on it? my processor is Intel Celeron M with 512mb RAM. there are processes in task manager that i don't know of. It has also pre-installed trial version of Office 2007. will my laptop run fast if i uninstall office 2007? and install 2003 instead? please...i need help asap. i am losing my patience. lol. thank you in advance!

512MB is a minimum configuration for Vista. Minimum means it will run, not that it will run well. When Windows runs out of RAM to write to, it will write to the Hard Drive. It take more time for a CPU to write to a hard drive than to RAM. Recommend upgrading your RAM to at least 1GB (2GB is even better). Also, 2GB of RAM will let your Internet access run faster.

Office 2007 is not slowing down your computer. But, it has more bells and whistles than Office 2003 so it will run slower with only 512MB of RAM. Unless you intend to buy Office 2007, you might as will replace it with your Office 2003. I use Office 2003 on my Vista PC.

Also, make sure that all your drivers are up to date. First, check your system drivers by clicking on Start>Windows Update. Click on "Check for updates". Second, recommend you click on the Mr. Driver link in my signature and check the status of your non-system drivers.

Good Luck...

wow! thank you very much! i tried to disable automatic updates yesterday as it only makes my laptop to run slower and my internet is also slow. (384 kbps subscription only) well, i guess i really have to upgrade my RAM and maybe update OS in a fast internet connection. again, thank you very much!
