I just bought a laptop with free upgrade to Vista when it is released next month. I don't play games and only use the laptop mainly for photography hobby. The softwares now in the computer are those basic picture orgarniser that came with the cameras I bought which may not support Vista.

If I go for the upgrade does that mean I would have to give up all this software ? If this is the case, then I would have to buy or download free photo softwares that support Vista ?

How about backward compatability of Vista ? Would the documents created in Vista be able to be recognised by Windows XP ?

Hope somebody could enlighten me so that I could make a decision whether to switch or not.

Almost everything in XP is compatible with Windows Vista. I will get GarHar on this one as he knows more about vista.

There's almost no compatability issues in Vista with XP software...none that i have found anyway - and i'm running 64bit Vista.
