Default Should I upgrade to Vista?

I just purchased a brand new computer...

CPU: Intel Core™ 2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB)
Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DIMMs
HDD: DataSafe 250GB
Video: 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro
Sound: Sound Blaster X-Fi™ XtremeMusic Sound Card
OS: Windows Media Center Edition

I've been psyched about Vista for a long time and the computer came with a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium.

I'm a college student so I do a lot of that boring stuff, but I also play some games such as The Sims, RTC, and Counter-Strike. I take a ton of pictures and do a lot of storage and photo editing. And I have a dual tv tuner and watch and record a lot of tv.

As much as I know that I should wait for at least SP1 to Vista, I'm way excited and want to upgrade as soon as it is released on Jan 30! How bad of an idea would this be?

I would wait, all vista is is a bunch of slick graphics, you can get windows blinds ,object dock ,and desktop sidebar and it makes xp look just like vista. Its your decision,I would just wait on not doit at all or atleast untill it is 100% safe.

I personally will be getting vista in January hopefully on a new build pc but i will still have this pc on XP so if anything goes wrong it will be ok. But i think vista is fairly stable and i like some of its new features.

yeah i think i will upgrade on my desktop. i'm going to keep XP Professional on my laptop so I'll always have a backup. I almost upgraded the video card more when I bought the PC, but when comparing them, it was hardly a difference. Beyond that, it was a massive price jump. The video card I have works great.

I don't know how much it'll cost to upgrade because I get a free upgrade with purchasing a computer -- I would have built the new desktop myself, but college doesn't allow me enough time.
