Welcome to PCHF OliG!

Vista is a whole new os but it can be bought when available as an upgrade.

It depends what you want to do with your pc as two whether you go with vista or not.

Most programs from xp will work with vista although some programs wont.

have a look at this thread that is similar to yours http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-x...-vs-vista.html.

Hey there welcome to Pchf.

If your thinking about getting Windows Vista your probly best buying a whole new system , Windows Vista is very system demanding and alot of pc's wont be able to handle it, i know i'm sticking with Xp for a few more years , as said above it depends what you want to do with your system, if you play alot of games you should be able to last a year or two without upgrading ( but expect some games to go slow).

i would say stick with XP because from what i have heard they are not letting any anti-virus and interent security programs into the core of the operateing system therefor i think you system will be more prone to virus's and hackers

Custom they werent at first but now they have allowed access and avg have even already released a compatible windows vista version of their free antivirus software, the version is 7.5 from free.grisoft.com.

Also they have taken away the one-install only license law and it can be installed as many times as you like now but on one machine at a time.
