Hello:
I'm running Vista Beta 2.... worked like a charm until...

I decided to remove the extra hard drive (F) (Data only).

Vista is on the C drive installed after a re format.

When I removed the F drive the system says "no hard drive present"

No boot... no nada.

Nothing else was changed... just popped out the 120 gig WD F Drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks....Its my very first post

Default Lost it all...

Hello:

I posted this under the Windows Vista board but it 's probably not a "Vista" problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated...

I'm running Vista Beta 2 on an extra machine.... worked like a charm until...
I decided to remove the extra hard drive (F) (Data only).
Vista is on the C drive and was installed after a re format.
When I removed the F drive the system says "no hard drive present"
No boot... no nada.
Nothing else was changed... just popped out the 120 gig WD F Drive.

Dell P4 2.6 with a gig of ram

Any ideas? The c drive is still there with the operating system on it but now is undetected.

By the way when I reinstalled the (F) drive it booted without a problem... Then I took the (F) drive out again and no boot same as before. (C) drive not found... "no hard drives present"

Thanks....Its my very first post

Hya San Diego Silver.

Could it be that the O.S. originaly was installed on the F: drive?
If you go to start/run/diskmgmt.msc , wich partition/drive is marked as "system" ?

And wich of the two HD's is the master HD?

Hi Joe:
The OS/System is on the c drive...
I don't know what "master HD" means.
How do I find out?
Thanks

Have a look in your bios to see wich HD is "master" and wich is "slave".

To get in your bios tap "Del" on boot up before windows loads. (or maybe F2, F5 or F6)

Hello again Joe:

Went to bios it was unable to find the drive:
Primary HD 0 not found
Primary HD 1 not found
Secondary IDE
Drive 0 Hi-DT-ST-Gce8481B

I was unable to boot from my Vista Beta 2 CD

Went to my XP Pro cd.... it fired right up, found the drive. I'm in the process now of reinstalling XP pro
Looks like the problem may have been Vista related after all.

I'll up date this after the install.
Thanks,
Don
