so i ran WD data lifeguard diagnostics and got this:

Please also run the Astra tool. I see why Wolfey is saying HDD issues. Everything in your 1st post - from the symptoms to the errors - ALL indicate HDD issues.

this is what astra tells me

HDD drive health status: this drive does not support S.M.A.R.T.

Apologies. No there is no need to purchase Astra. Do you see Diagnostics on the left? Once you have selected Diagnostics, there is an HDD Diag that you can run and provide screenshots of the results. That is alll that is required.

I honestly don't know that I have ever seen a drive report the serial number as (DEMO version). I think I would go back to NewEgg on this....
