A lot of software is incompatible with any x64 operating system, there is the sysWOW emulation to simulate x32 bit processing for any specified 32 bit program, in a few cases, however, i have found this to be rather ineffective. I myself have 2 64 bit operating systems at the moment so i am speaking from some experience, being a gamer myself. windows xp will encounter new features in new games that will probably conflict at some point or just refuse to work, it's your money. If for games, i would personally use windows 7 32 bit. it's a new operating system, so should support most advanced functions a newer game will need, but its more efficient on system resources than vista (but lets face it, what ISNT more efficient than vista?) and it's 32 bit. i have windows 7 pro (x64) works very well, very smoothly, i must say, after microsoft produced vista, i was surprised at windows 7. but anyway, while the 64-bit is a more powerful system, if you're just going to gaming, 32 bit ensures compatibility with all your games, hope this helps dude

Hey gamerdude, I myself am using Windows 7 x64 on my gaming rig - and I haven't found anything not compatible. All my drivers, all my software - everything works. Certain applications are actually much quicker in 64bit mode (compression, 3d stuff, etc). I also have exceptional gaming performance. I don't think you'd won't be disappointed with x64.

Without a doubt go with Windows 7.. I constantly use it for gaming over Steam and it runs perfectly. The ONLY games I have had issues with were old blizzard games like StarCraft and Diablo.

robjvan agrees: Double that - Diablo 2 gave me a huge pain in the ***. Everything else is smooth as butter.
