Default OS transition (vista->7) mutes internal mike

Hello,

Specs:
1. xps 1530 with a recent upgrade to vista and updated system drivers.

symptoms:

1. Internal Laptop Mike does not pick up my sounds. It has worked fine in the past up until i upgraded to windows 7. I have attempted to test it with skype, windows sound recorder, and by listening to the mike itself.

2. The mike refuses to pick up regular speech volume that is further than 5 cm from its location.

3. I have 2 microphones available to me. (both internal - i assume)

Attempts:

1. Just off the bat, i have checked the drivers (they are up to date), i reinstalled them.
2. Gone to the control panel > sound > recordings > and messing with various properties. (all the levels are set to maximum for both mikes). I have traded off the defaults for both mikes to see if that would fix the problem. The audability either goes away or remains very faint so isolated the mike that gives me sound. Checked that the system picks up it is there.
3.* Switched to windows classic view and then something changed: specifying the default mike to use makes it unavailable (previous set as "ready") and then the same is true when swapping to the other "ready" mike; it also becomes unavailable. Became true for classic windows and 7 basic layouts.

So... now neither of my mikes work.

So... i guess i'm hoping that no one says "wait for windows to solve it as everyone else has this issue"

Why would you have two internal microphones?

In Device Manager uninstall "both". Reboot....

Report back..........................
